Storing sperm is the last thing you want to think about when faced with a serious illness. You want to survive; creating a family is not that important - at least, not right now. But many successful treatments render you temporarily, if not permanently sterile. If fatherhood is a part of your plans for the future, or if you are not sure, it is vital that you consider storing your sperm. Usually, undergoing a vasectomy means you don't want your sperm. In fact, doctors advise their patients to consider their operation permanent. Unfortunately, life situations change, and many men find themselves seeking vasectomy reversals, which are not always successful. Engaging in physically strenuous or dangerous activities is another reason to store your sperm. Also, if you work around substances that could affect your fertility, such as insecticides, radiation, fungicides, herbicides or heavy metals, you should consider storage as an option. It's easy to store your sperm. Just call us at 1-800-277-3210. If you live near an XTS office (Atlanta or Augusta, Georgia), it normally takes three visits to collect sufficient samples. If you live far away, like most of our clients, click here for information about our affliates that are able to assist you with transferring your samples to XTS or call XTS and request a cryokit (click here for cryokit instructions). A cryokit contains all the materials necessary to collect your samples in the comfort of your own home. After you finish collecting, ship your cryokit to XTS and we will do the rest. Once we receive your cryokit, we evaluate your sperm samples and maintain them in liquid nitrogen freezers until you need them. If possible allow a week to store three samples, each collected after 48 hours of abstinence. It is important that you plan for this additional time prior to treatment or surgery, even if you only have enough time to collect one or two samples. You will need to provide bloodsamples for testing, or recent results of required blood tests with in 30 days of receipt of your sperm samples. XTS currently tests for HIV I & II, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HTLV I & II and RPR. XTS cannot store your sperm without having blood test results on file. XTS sends annual statements and consent forms to keep you informed of the status of your account. The consent forms gives you the option of continuing or terminating storage with XTS.

Transferring your semen samples from other storage locations: Many times because of space limitations or liability, facilities can only offer temporary storage. XTS is a long term storage facility with the ability to transfer and maintain your frozen semen samples in storage for as long as needed. The process is easy. To begin, click here for your transfer packet, mail the completed forms to XTS, attn: Tissue Bank Coordinator, 1100 Emmett St, August GA 30904 or fax to 706 738 4766. Upon receipt of your completed packet, the coordinator will contact the current storage facility for blood work results and confirm a shipping date for the transfer tank to arrive.
